What to bring with you to the examination

Listed below are some items you will need to bring to the examination. If you are unsure please contact us prior to the examination:

Your most recent medical certificate (for renewals)
Vital in order to obtain information about the date of your last examination, limitations etc.

Your Pilot's licence - if you have one

Your log book
(or a note of total hours + hours since last medical)

Name, address and phone number of your GP

For initial examination only (student pilot) - ID with a photo and your signature.
e.g. Passport or new style driving licence.

Any / all glasses and contact lenses that you wear to fly

Please be sure to bring the optician's prescription for those lenses. If mislaid, ask your optician to send or fax you a copy. Wear glasses and bring contact lenses to the examination. Contact lenses should be left out of the eyes for at least 12 (soft lenses) or 48 hours (hard lenses) prior to your medical. This is because the wearing of contact lenses can adversely affect your uncorrected vision for some time after they are taken out.

Varifocal lenses are now acceptable. Bifocal contact lenses are not. If you need glasses for near vision (usually starts to be a problem in your late 40s) be sure that your optician supplies you with either bifocals, Varifocals or lookovers. Full lens near correction is unacceptable. If in doubt, phone or e-mail for advice before you come for your medical.

Laser surgery for correcting distance visual defects has now become acceptable. See the News or Examinations (eye examination) pages for details.
