Audiometry is an accurate hearing test that measures your response to a series of tones at varying frequencies and intensities. It is required on a regular basis for professional pilots but also for the small number of PPLs who hold an IR. It is NOT required if you hold an IMC rating.

Here, at Aviation Medicals, we have a professional soundproof booth with a state of the art automatic audiometer.

For PPLs without an IR the hearing test is no more than a measure of your ability to hear a conversational voice at 2 metres with your back to the examiner.
