The INITIAL Class 1 examination has to be carried out by the CAA at Gatwick and is far more extensive than any examination you are likely to receive in your lifetime! However, do not be put off as the majority of applicants do get through it. The renewal Class 1 examination is less onerous and can be carried out for you here at Aviation Medicals. For those INITIAL Class 2 applicants, it is really very straightforward. The basic examination is a general physical examination of most systems of the body – heart, lungs, ENT (ears, nose and throat) etc. but with a particular emphasis on eyes and eyesight. Colour vision is tested only at the initial examination along with a simple blood test. You will have an ECG at your initial examination then at intervals after your 40th birthday. The renewal
examination is very similar. |
